La Ville Close

Concarneau's main attraction is the cradle of the town. The first traces of its existence date back to the 11th century. The walled town is protected by granite ramparts almost 3 metres thick, nine towers and three gates. The oldest houses in Concarneau can be found here. Its cobbled streets feature timber-framed houses, granite gables and sculpted lintels. Stroll through the narrow streets in search of details from the past, and take advantage of the many shops and restaurants during your stroll.

Concarneau, le port The port of Concarneau

In the 19th century, the town grew out of the Ville Close. Numerous canning factories occupied the area around the port. Fishing for sardines or tuna has helped the town develop economically and is part of the local history. Today, the port of Concarneau is mainly used for inshore fishing, but also for shipbuilding and pleasure craft. Ocean racing is also well established, as Concarneau Bay is often used as a training ground by top skippers. As you stroll along the quays, you may be lucky enough to spot some of their speedboats.

The beaches of Concarneau

After your visit to the Ville Close and the port, you can take a dip or laze on the sand on the beaches of the Corniche or Cornouaille, a friendly beach located in the town centre!
