The first place not to be missed in this small town is its Museum of Fine Arts, which is classified as a "Musée de France". It offers 850 permanent works of art, as well as three annual exhibitions: it is therefore possible to visit the museum several times a year without seeing the same exhibitions again!
How was this exceptional museum born? In 1865, several cosmopolitan artists settled in Pont-Aven to develop their artistic talents thanks to the incredible setting of the town. In 1886, several renowned painters such as Gauguin, Bernard and Sérusier were at the peak of their art and were implementing new ideas that would revolutionize the world of painting. The Bois d'Amour of Pont-Aven, a exceptional walk
The painters of Pont-Aven were largely inspired by the port, the city center but also the Bois d'Amour. This grove, which borders the river Aven, represents all the charm of the town. You can get there from the town centre, and you will discover the reason for the popularity of this wood: the luminosity which reigns there and which evolves according to the hours and the seasons sublimates this incredible place. The Bois d'Amour is also the place of the famous lesson that Paul Gauguin gave to Paul Sérusier, the lesson "The Talisman".
To discover this timeless place, you can start from the town centre (rue du Général de Gaulle) and walk along the Aven for about 2.5km. The walk to the Bois d'Amour also starts from the entrance of the Xavier Grall promenade, and the return is via the rue de la belle Angèle, passing under the viaduct. In addition to discovering a magnificent setting in the undergrowth, the walk to get there is very pleasant and recommended during a tourist visit to Pont-Aven.

The town centre of Pont-Aven is very lively during the summer, but it is nevertheless a must-see place when visiting the town. It is a place with a typical Breton architecture, with many shopkeepers who welcome with great pleasure tourists and local inhabitants. You will be able to taste an excellent and traditional galette de Pont-Aven.
Once you have done your shopping and visited the town centre, take a walk along the Aven via the various lanes which are decorated with flowers during the summer, it is a pleasant walk in a truly splendid setting. The last place not to be missed in Pont-Aven is the Port, with its decor worthy of the most beautiful postcards. It has been a source of inspiration for many painters, hence its special character. The port of Pont-Aven is also the place where the market is held every Tuesday morning.
